Culture everywhere

Nautical sports, horseriding, bicycle rides, parachuting, hot-air balloon trips, thalassotherapy… For children and adults, the seaside offers many different ways to relax and have fun.

In Nantes Saint-Nazaire, the cultural life is rich and creative with so many different venues. The “Lieu Unique” is an atypical art center, curious about everything and open to all, which features drama, dance, circus, music but also philosophy, literature and culinary arts. La Fabrique explores modern music and digital arts. The city also boasts a national choreographic center, a national orchestra, an opera house, a national conservatory and an international event center.

The Hangar à Bananes, a museum of fine arts and a museum of natural history, the three-masted barque Le Belem: there are many places to visit! Another highly recommended place is the estuary itinerary: a unique way to discover contemporary art in an open-air gallery along the estuary.

From both sea and land, you won’t get enough of the local food specialties. The “Tables de Nantes” is the perfect guide to help you discover this mix of flavours and arouse your taste buds.

Nautical sports and the “Loire à vélo”

Special emphasis is put on nautical sports with sea kayaking, rowing, and nautical skiing just 10 minutes away from the city-center. Nantes is ideally located as you can choose to go sail on the Erdre or opt for a coastal cruise on the Atlantic Ocean… This is also where the “Solidaire du Chocolat”  – a transantlatic race like no others – casts off, celebrating two themes embraced by the metropolis: solidarity and a sense of community.

The “Loire by bike” itinerary crosses the Val de Loire, listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list for its picturesque landscape and vineyards. It is also registered as part of the future Eurovéloroute of rivers and will ultimately connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea.

A competitive spirit

The metropolis often hosts top sport events: such as the World Football Cup in 1998 and the Rugby World Club in 2007. Basketball, women’s handball, rowing, marathon and also surprising disciplines such as the Table Soccer Worldcup every year have also extended the reputation of Nantes Saint-Nazaire abroad.
